
Buffett announced that he was planning to give more than 80 percent of his assets to charitable foundations. By 2020, he increased that percentage to a whopping 99 percent. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation established by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the primary recipient. The foundation focused on education and health in the world. Bill and Buffett had been friends since the 90s. The three Buffett children as well as the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his wife) were among those who received donations. They were focused on the rights of women's reproductive health, provided college scholarshipsand additional charities. In 2010 Buffett together with Gates created the Giving Pledge. This pledge encouraged other wealthy people to give a large portion of their fortunes to charitable organizations.
